Since the bar stool originated in restaurants and bars, it is only appropriate to discuss how a restaurant or bar chooses which bar stool should reside in their restaurant. Sure, people are using bar stools in their homes as kitchen stools and breakfast chairs but restaurants and bars are the ones who did it first.

When a public establishment is looking for a bar stool to outfit their place, they are looking for a specific chair that really fits their atmosphere. Size also comes into play, but it is much easier for a bar stool to be customized by size then it is by style.

One thing a bar must keep in mind is that they are trying to keep people in their establishment for as long as possible so a bar stool with a back is pretty important. Those stools that are backless have their advantages but a bar stool that has a comfortable back makes guests feel more at home and will keep them from feeling any back pain. Those bar stools that go backless are known for giving people slight back pain, even after just one seating.

Another thing public establishments must keep in mind is the weight of their stools. A bar or restaurant is a place of enjoyment and movement, so having a light bar stool is pretty important. The heavier the stool, the harder it will be to move around and the more chance you will have people sitting still the whole time they are there. In order for a bar to be compatible to the needs of their guests, they will want a light bar stool. Light bar stools are also easier for employees to put away at the end of the night!

Since bar stools originated in bars and public establishments it is especially crucial for them to fit the needs of anyone that walks through the door. The perfect bar stool for the perfect restaurant- light with a comfortable back!
